It’s been a dream of ours to ride our bicycles south from Anchorage, Alaska to South America in hopes of raising money for a special charity and challenging ourselves both physically and mentally. The charity that we are raising money for is the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. This charity is very close to Neil because his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer just last year and underwent chemotherapy and all the other rigorous treatments along with it. The treatment turned out to be a success and she is doing well. But this is a very tough thing some women must go through emotionally and physically; the mission of the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is to support all women healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and services regardless of financial status.
We plan to ride as far south as we can in four months leaving in August, 2012 and returning in December. Our goal at the moment is to reach Colombia, which is around 6000 miles away. Every opportunity we have, we will create a journal entry on this website, with an update of our trip with information on our location, pics from the ride, as well as video.
Combined we probably have racked up less then 1000 miles on a bike in our entire lifespan, so this will prove to be quite the adventure and challenge for the both of use, but we are determined and passionate about raising money for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation through each mile we travel. Any donation would be amazing. You can donate a certain amount for every mile we travel or every 50, 100, 1000 etc.
